Albania is a unitary republic lying on the west of the Balkan Peninsular in Southern Europe. It has a population of 2,886,000 (2017).
The country is divided into municipalities (bashkia) (the first-tier administrative divisions), and counties (qark) (the second-tier administrative divisions).
