Ukraine is a unitary state divided into villages (sela), towns (selyshcha), cities (mista), districts (raioni) and regions (oblasti)*.
Consolidation of the local authority landscape began in 2015, resulting in the establishment of 159 consolidated local authorities (21 cities, 45 settlements and 93 villages).
