San Marino Unitary state
San Marino (officially the Most Serene Republic of San Marino or the Republic of San Marino) is the third-smallest country in Europe after the Vatican City and Monaco, and the fifth-smallest in the world after the Vatican City, Monaco, Nauru and Tuvalu. It is also the world’s oldest republic, with a constitutional system that dates back to the 16th century.
It is an enclaved micro-state surrounded by Italy. San Marino is a unitary state divided into townships (municipalities), known locally as castelli (castles).
